ABQFX FAQ
The Fusion Exchange has answered some of the questions you may have in its FAQ. Rather than trying to duplicate all that information here, we will refer you to it for some of our answers.*
What is Fusion?
We can't answer this question as well as the Fusion Exchange did.
See the Fusion Exchange FAQ, question A2.*
Why should I come to ABQFX 2015?
There are amazing classes with knowledgeable teachers
offering fascinating classes,
fabulous music
and 3 nights of dancing with top DJs,
lots of energy, a welcoming community, and plenty of time for exploration.
Check out what's special about ABQFX 2015:
What is your philosophy for the event?
We have adopted Community Respect Exploration Diversity, or CRED, as our core philosophy.
CRED may be interpreted as our essential philosophy of life with respect to dance events;
it has guided our efforts and choices throughout the process of organizing ABQFX 2015.
Our website has a more comprehensive discussion of
our philosophy.
Where does my money go?
There is a lot that goes into creating a successful dance weekend, and we do everything possible to make it great.
This includes things that you directly experience and enjoy (like great instruction and wonderful music)
as well as things that are more intangible (like rent, insurance, etc.).
We believe that it is important to compensate those who we hire to work our event. In particular, DJs generally are not recognized and paid commensurately with their contributions to an event. Consequently, we are offering our headliner DJs an allowance for their air travel expenses up to a preset amount. All DJs will receive payment on a per set basis.
Please note that although the event co-organizers and coordinators put in hundreds of hours of work on the event, they receive little to no monetary compensation in return.

Is this a blues event?
Yes. And no.
This is a blues/fusion event: we have one track with classes in blues dancing; and we have a second track with classes in fusion dancing. There will be blues dancers at the event. There will be dancers who don't identify themselves as blues dancers. You’ll hear blues music as one style among many.

What type of music do you play/what is fusion music?
We can't answer this question as well as the Fusion Exchange did.
See the Fusion Exchange FAQ, question A10.*
Do you offer refunds (and other questions about registration)?
For the answer to this and other questions about registration,
see our Registration FAQ.
(We don't offer refunds, but we do allow transfers.)
Do you have competitions?
The Fusion Exchange said it succinctly:
"Our event is about social dancing, celebrating and inspiring each other, and creation on the dance floor.
We do not have competitions, which to us means more community, less drama, and more time to dance!"*
Where can I stay while I am there?
Our local dancers will be opening their homes to our out-of-town attendees.
Our website has information about
housing and hosting.
How do I sign up for private lessons?
You must sign up directly with the teacher(s).
Our
private lessons page
has rates, times, and teacher contact information.
What is a mini-private lesson and how do I sign up for one?
Late Sunday morning, just before classes start,
all of our instructors will be individually available for 15-minute mini-private lessons.
You may sign up for mini-private lessons starting at check-in on Friday night.
Our
mini-private lessons page
has rates, times, and full sign-up information.
Why take private or mini-private lessons?
We can't answer this question any better than the Fusion Exchange did.
See the Fusion Exchange FAQ, question F2.*
What is your late policy for private lessons and mini-private lessons?
Please show up at least 5 minutes before your private or mini-private lesson.
Check in at the front desk when you arrive, and you will be directed to where the lessons are.
If you are late to a private lesson or mini-private lesson you lose that time, since we cannot allow your lesson to run late into another attendee’s time. We will try to be flexible if we can. For example, if there is no one scheduled after you and it works with your instructor, going longer is not at issue, but plan to be early since this is often not the case.

Do I have to pick my classes ahead of time?
No, that's why we have
demos immediately before classes.
By all means read the class descriptions, and allow your interest to be piqued.
But prepare to have your mind changed when you see the demos!
At our first Fusion Exchange, we found that, although we had read all the class titles/descriptions,
after watching a brief demo — usually one minute or less — we almost always changed our minds about what class we wanted to attend.
